NEW: You can now buy me a Ko-fi! http://ko-fi.com/areasontobreathe
I was able to finish the Masterpost for The Miys, as promised to @janeshadow. I’ve also added the previous, masterlist, and next links at the bottom of each chapter to make navigation easier. Readmores have been added in chapters that were lacking them, and wonky chapter titles or inconsistent font sizing should be fixed within the best of my ability.
Under Avandra’s Eyes VII: To Stem a Tide
Thank you to @canyouhearthelight for your tireless support and encouragement in our shared writing enterprise and for your beta-writing that makes everything flow so much better.
Also thanks to @feral-possums-in-the-bog for your binging, @barest-of-bones for your Ao3 binge. Also to @drbibliophile who has been so hyped for this project in particular and has reblogged this series and to @dierotenixe for their reblogs as well.
Without further ado - let’s see what Vixen meant by her remarks about Baldor, shall we? @1978sah good guess, but no cigar.
Soooo… Somehow I saw no one guess this one, and I was kinda shocked.
Reading this the first time, Baldor’s line at the end had me tearing up and screaming. Just… Oof. Chef’s kiss.
Reblog if it’s ok for your mutuals to just send you posts they think you’d like or talk to you about random parts of their day.
Literally how I became friends with @charlylimph-blog so… Go off lol
Arcadian Inquisition 79: Talk Between Friends
@canyouhearthelight thank you so, so much for your hard work on beta-ing this chapter and catching a critical mistake I made with an ooc slip with Reed - you did a great job there, and to everyone in the audience - give her a round of applause, she does so much to make this story as good as it is with her beta-ing.
To @diretenixe @lavcircuts, @feral-possums-in-the-bog, @ladyinhavoc and @turtleuwu, for your reblogs and assistance getting this story out there, I love you guys.
Also, ask box is always open, I love answering any questions you have about the world, the rules for the Druids, Circles, Arcadia, the world in general, or the characters.
Anyway, Reed and River are about to have a conversation about their pasts Read on!
TW (All mentioned): Child Abuse, Slavery mention, Abuser deliberately triggering victim, confinement, isolation and starvation
My BroTP!!!
And yes, when this was being written, I did catch a spot at the end that didn’t make sense from Reed… I am pleased to also admit that Bael fixed it so well that I had to rack my brain to remember wtf it was…
I am getting really close to 1k posts on here, and it’s bananas, I’ll be honest. I’m not even close to that in followers, but I don’t even know what to do if I get to that point… Is there A Thing?? Like, is there a THING I am supposed to do if I hit 1k followers?
I don’t know the protocol…
What I do know, however, is that we are already halfway through 2021, my thirdish year on this story, and… This has been a weird and wild ride. I love y’all, and I want to emphasize: the ask box is always open. So is my inbox for PMs. I don’t know how, considering how queer-and-non-NT I have try to make this story, but I don’t get a ton of hate messages??? Or maybe it’s just that I follow @cipheramnesia and just block astroturfs pretty consistently. (I mean… I don’t think they would like this story… If I’m wrong, I’ll make a point to create a backstory for human-Jordan and just insert her everywhere. Y’all let me know)
As always, thank you to @baelpenrose for you beta-reading and questions… they always enrich, and in this case made the next chapter nearly a double!

A big thank you to both @drbibliophile for ongoing reblogs, for @charlylimph-blog for curiosity and @feral-possums-in-the-bog for their binge-reading.
And of course, to @canyouhearthelight for your beta-reading. I really, honestly, could not do this without you.
I should not be cackling at the description toward the end of this chapter… I really should not. But I remember many moons ago when this chapter was originally written, and the dawning horror fighting with how impressed I was that Bael just really went for it with the “not human, never was, not even close” quality of it.
And now I am cackling because I know there is even more coming up. I love it.
Researcher R-12
R-12 was in her prime. As one of the researchers at the Vespion intergalactic animal research facility, she got to be the first to observe and interact with a multitude of fascinating foreign creatures. She spent her days with a light green outer covering, the color of happiness and fulfillment, and her colleagues generally respected her. She had even had to turn down flirtatious offers from fertilizers and hosts, which were far more frequent than they used to be.
She tucked her seeding tubes, which consisted of dozens of long translucent protrusions from her head, into a pale yellow cap. While other seeders might occasionally show off their tubes to attest to being a good genetic choice, she knew that the workplace wasn’t the place for such things, especially since she had begun her seeding cycle, and the dark violet seeds were visible inching their way through her tubes before they could be deposited either in a fertilized host’s pod, or in a preservation container that would send them off to be frozen for use in the future.
She had always chosen the preservation container. She loved her work far too much to consider reproducing any time soon.

Arcadian Inquisition 78: Allegiance - Breaking
@canyouhearthelight Thanks for beta reading
@lavcircuts thanks for commenting. @dierotenixe thanks for binging, and you @barest-of-bones and @feral-possums-in-the-bog you too.
Hey guys. You’ve been waiting a while for this. On a few levels.
Dobby never meant to kill. Dobby only meant to maim or seriously injure…
Also, @baelpenrose you are a terrible, terrible tease. I love it.
Whew, on a roll with queuing these up! Kind of proud of myself.
Speaking of proud… So many familiar names in the notes this week! Y’all are giving me a huge smile during a super busy week/month. Work has been bananas, weekends have been insane, and knowing that all of you are reading and enjoying the story gives me the encouragement I need to keep writing and to make the effort to keep the quality as consistent as possible.
All of you literally encourage me to take care of myself :) Thank you so much.
And, always, thank you to @baelpenrose, @charlylimph-blog, and @the-raven-fae, for everything you do, from beta-reading, to giving me stuff to read, to just keeping me reasonably sane.

@canyouhearthelight did a kick-ass job beta-reading this like always and I’m so, so hyped to be getting into the battle proper with this one.
Plus, fun to watch Liza and Thomas work together, no?
“Not like the Pikar - things […] that never were human.”
UGH! I still love this phrasing. That horrible line between “used to be human” and “never was” always hits just right.
This entire story was so much fun to beta, especially because it starts right in the action and takes off running. Specifically this chapter and the several to follow are just a whirlwind.
So, after many explosions amd having to hunt down my dog - who panicked amd escaped the fence while we weren’t home due to premature fireworks - this is not the garbage I wanted to wake up to:
This was the most impartial headline I saw, btw. The one that caught - and rolled - my eyes was “PBS, Vanessa Williams spark backlash over 'Black National Anthem’.”
It’s not like she made this up! For the love of heck, I started humming the song when I saw the headline… I learned this song in 5th grade (9-10 years old). It’s not new…
“Lift Every Voice and Sing” dates back to 1900. In 1919 the NAACP named it “The Negro National Anthem” (now 'The Black National Anthem’ because times and language change). That’s over 100 years ago. The song is beautiful, haunting, and deserves to be heard at any celebration of US history, because my god you feel the history in your bones.
So, I like this headline better. Point the finger at who is angry, it damned sure isn’t everyone.
